Matt Bradley -

 As
an anchor and reporter, Matt Bradley says he has the best of both worlds in
TV news. You’ll catch him reporting Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and
he’ll help you get ready for the week ahead while anchoring Valley News Live
weekends.
Matt boasts ten years of broadcast journalism experience. He began
in AM news radio, gaining valuable experience while a college student at St.
John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Also during that time, he
spent two summers and a winter as an intern in WCCO-TV's Dimension Unit.
After earning a degree in Communication from St. John's, Matt jumped right
into television news, working as a reporter and weekend anchor at KEYC-TV in
Mankato, Minnesota. He then moved on to the Minneapolis area, as anchor of
Channel 12 News, a local cable station focusing on news, sports, and events
affecting the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities.
In January of 2006, Matt journeyed further north, and joined
KVLY-TV as a reporter. Now, being behind the anchor desk on weekends, and
reporting live during the week, Matt has the best of both aspects of TV
news.
Matt enjoys most spending time with his wife, Danielle, and their son, Mark |

Lisa
has a wealth of experience covering news here in the
valley. Before joining KVLY-News11 in 2002 as a reporter
and fill-in anchor, Lisa was a reporter and producer for the
local TV Fox affiliate in Fargo. Lisa has won a number of
awards for her reporting from the North Dakota and Minnesota
Associate Press, North Dakota Broadcasters and the Northwest
Broadcast News Association. She has also received a regional
Emmy nomination for continuing coverage of the abduction of
UND student, Dru Sjodin.
In addition to her television job, Lisa works in radio news
at Fargo’s KFGO-AM. Her first job in the media was in
Wahpeton at KBMW-AM.
Lisa graduated from Minnesota State University-Moorhead with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication and from
North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, with a
degree in Liberal Arts.
Lisa says being a mom is her #1 job (but she does love the

Neil Carlson -
neilc@valleynewslive.com |
|
|
Neil
has been covering the northern Red River Valley for 27 years. He’s the only
reporter in North Dakota to cover our troops at war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That makes him one of the most seasoned reported operating out of the
Midwest--- TV, radio or newspaper. And that seasoning shows. Neil knows
what’s going on in the northern valley, and his unique perspective
frequently takes our viewers one step beyond the competition’s report.
Neil is a native of Cleveland, North Dakota and lives in Crookston with his
family. |

Nick Carlson -
nickc@valleynewslive.com |
|
|
Even
before Nick became a photographer for Valley News Live in 2001, he was
definitely no stranger to the camera! He has been a contributing
photographer to the Associated Press for over 20 years.
Nick came to TV11 from a local newspaper, The Forum, where he worked for 15
years. Twice he earned “Photographer of the Year” honors from the Dakota
Chapter of the National Press, and placed several times in competition with
the National Press Photographers Association.
Aside from having “a good eye,” Nick’s enthusiasm is second to none. He’s
always ready to go when there’s a spot news story to cover, and greets every
shoot with a smile. |

Mike Cary -

Mike
is a “One-man Band” at our Grand Forks bureau, meaning he’s a reporter and a
photographer at the same time. Although he’s originally from Crosby, North
Dakota, Mike now considers Grand Forks to be home. Even before he graduated
from the University of North Dakota, Mike started working professionally in
the Grand Forks TV market, and he’s been there ever since!
For an avid Sioux
fan like Mike, his job couldn’t more fun. His media pass gets him into all
of UND’s athletic events. Of course, he’s shooting sports highlights and
getting interviews, but he’s still at the games. In fact Mike says his most
enjoyable TV experience was accompanying the Sioux football team to national
playoff games in Pennsylvania and Alabama!
A lot of people have seen Mike’s reporting on News11 for years, but
have no idea what he looks like. That’s because he doesn’t do a lot of
on-camera “stand-ups.” Mike says he doesn’t seem to “fit the mold of the
airbrushed TV guy,” and jokes that his most frequently asked question is:
“Is there a reporter with you?”
Mike and his wife Angela live in Grand Forks with the newest
addition to their family, a parakeet named “Kiwi.” |

Although
she's never been a “morning person,” Barbara now enjoys
getting up early to help viewers start their day along with
crew at the Valley Today.
Originally from Rochester, MN, Barbara has always considered
Fargo-Moorhead “home away from home.” Her parents were born
and raised here and she still has many relatives living in
the area. Her grandpa served as Clay County Judge for
several years.
As a kid,
she spent every summer at the family cabin by Lake Park and
looks forward to spending even more time there now! She
hopes that since she will be living closer to the lake, she
can finally get a pink fishing boat to match her pink
fishing rod.
Some of
her hobbies include fishing, snowmobiling, baking (but not
cooking), traveling and spending time on the lake. Barbara
also volunteers as a coach of the 8U North Stars girl’s
hockey team and walks dogs for the Humane Society.
Barbara
is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities
with a degree in Journalism and History. While in college,
Barbara interned at WCCO in Minneapolis, KTTC in Rochester

Kristin Helgeson -
kristinh@valleynewslive.com |

|
Kristin’s
first experience at Valley News Live was as an intern during
the big story of 2009, the spring
flood. She helped with
the massive “team coverage” effort as a reporter and at
times a “one-man band” reporter/photographer. In the end,
she was offered a position in the news department!
Every day
is a new adventure for Kristin. She gladly shifts from
reporting (often as a one man band), to shooting a story or
anchoring cut-ins on Saturday morning.
A 2009 graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead,
Kristen has a B.A. in English and Mass Communication. At
MSU-M she worked on Campus News, a weekly news program
broadcast on Prairie Public Television. She also took an
exchange course in England on media production at the
University of Lincoln and worked with former members of the
BBC.
Kristin
grew up in Hankinson. She enjoys this part of the country
because of the friendly people and wide-open spaces. Kristin has a huge family loves to spend time with
them whenever she can. |

Robin Huebner -
robinh@valleynewslive.com |
|
Robin’s
interest in television reporting began when she was
interviewed as a college athlete. Journalism and athletics
played important roles for Robin as a student, and still do
today.
In high school, Robin was a national gymnastics champion. She
traveled the world with the US Gymnastics Team and had a chance to compete
against Nadia Comaneci. Robin was also a Big 10 champion competing for the
University of Minnesota, where she received her degree in Broadcast
Journalism, and was later named to the Women’s Athletics Hall of Fame. In
2006, she was named to the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.
Robin’s first job out of college? What else? She was able to
combine athletics and journalism as a sports anchor for a Twin Cities TV
station. In 1985, she began her career with TV11 as a reporter at our Grand
Forks bureau. It wasn’t long before she was anchoring News11 on the
weekends and in 1990 Robin was promoted to 6 and 10 PM producer and anchor.
Robin took on the additional duties of Assistant News Director when Charley
Johnson was named General Manager.
Robin is still personally active in athletics and professionally as
a commentator for collegiate gymnastics competitions. She and her husband,
Terry, have a son named Andrew and a daughter, Alexandra. They live in
Fargo. |
