Six weeks ago a twister struck Wadena, Minnesota destroying homes, schools, and part of the county fair grounds. Now, the county fair still managed to open as scheduled.
The fair lost 7 buildings in the twister, including a couple of horse barns, a vendors exhibit area, and the family fun center. One of the fair's directors, says it was important to bring this fair back this year and prove to people that a tornado won't stop this annual tradition.
Fair director Stephen Springer says, "It's quite a change with the buildings that are disappeared and the trees that are gone but it's coming together. There's been a lot of people who thought we couldn't do this or not but it came through so it feels great to have it going."
Still, there is a lot of re-building that will need to go on at the fair grounds to return it to its former status.
