Minnesota authorities say they will be on the lookout for people who are plowing snow off of their property and across or onto public roads. The state law applies to all city, township, county and state roads. It's a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.

Mail carriers are asking you to keep them in mind when you clear snow. Customers must clear the snow at least six feet around their mailboxes. And to make sure your mail carrier doesn't skip your house for safety reasons, sidewalks should be shoveled and steps should be clear of ice and snow.

Also, firefighters want to remind everyone to keep neighborhood hydrants free of snow. Many are covered after the holiday storm. Also, the emergency exits of homes and businesses should be checked, to make sure they are not blocked by snow. Firefighters say it only takes three inches of snow to prevent a door from opening.
