A proposed North Dakota ballot measure would raise the state tax on wine, beer and liquor.
The measure sets aside a share of the tax for alcohol education and prevention.
Duane Peterson of Gwinner submitted the initiative petition to Secretary of State Al Jaeger on Wednesday.
Once Jaeger's review is completed, supporters of the tax increase may begin gathering petition signatures to put it on North Dakota's statewide ballot. They need to get almost 13,000 signatures.
The proposal would raise the state tax on a six-pack of beer from 9 cents to 14 cents. The tax on a liter of regular wine would rise by 2.3 cents. On a liter of whiskey, gin or other liquor, the tax would go up by 9 cents.
