Area law enforcement continue their push to get you to buckle up. Monday night’s neighborhood crime watch, is the finish of a seat belt blitz that just wrapped up on the North Dakota side of the river while Minnesota's click it or ticket campaign will do the same later this week. All agencies have been committing additional manpower to look for violators and when necessary, are giving tickets to those not complying with the law. While the fines are usually minimal, safety experts stand by statistics that show, failure to buckle up can cost someone in an accident their life.
Sgt. Joe Anderson: "Just driving around the community, it is more than what I expected, the age varies from teenager, all the way up to adults, who aren't wearing their seatbelts."
Early results from this years safety blitz are mixed. In West Fargo, for example, of 69 stops, 55 drivers were wearing seat belts. However, over the same 13 day blitz, Cass County authorities report 170 seat belt violations and 212 warnings given out, room for improvement there.
