The firing of former Roseau County, Minnesota, sheriff deputy Chad Maurstad has been upheld. Thomas Yaeger with the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission found Maurstad violated Roseau County policy by engaging in sexual harassment, insubordination, conduct unbecoming an officer, making false accusation of a crime and being rude and overberaing to membes of hte public.
Maurstad was terminated by Sheriff Jule Hanson on December 11, 2008. Maurstad filed a grievance and a hearing was held last spring.
In a decision issued today, Yaeger says proven charges against the former deputy are egregious offenses for a law enforcement officer. Yaeger says Maurstad's 15 years of service do not mitigate the seriousness of his misconduct.
