The Army Corps of Engineers is ready to show Fargo-Moorhead what it thinks can be done to protect residents from another disaster like the flood of 2009. Planners are holding two meetings next week -- the first on Tuesday, October 20, at the Howard Johnson Inn in downtown Fargo, and the second Wednesday, October 21, in the auditorium of Hagen Hall on the MSU-Moorhead campus. Both sessions begin with an open house at 6 p.m., formal presentation at 7 p.m. and questions until 9 p.m.
Army Corps engineers working with officials from Fargo and Moorhead are deciding what ideas to move forward with and which ones to dump. The plan includes a number of alternatives, including construction of flood walls, levees and diversion channels, flood storage, and relocation of flood-prone properties.
