Oakport flood levee work starts

Help's on the way for Oakport residents often hit by spring flooding. The township north of Moorhead is breaking ground Wednesday for a $3 million dike system to protect 400 homes in the area. About three dozen properties were bought out to accommodate construction of the permanent flood protection plan. Plans for the project started after the 1997 disaster, and there have been four major floods since -- in 2000, 2001, 2006 and 2009. |
