A 62-year-old Watauga, S.D., man was rescued after being trapped in a grain bin full of wheat. Corson County Sheriff Keith Gall says Larry Honeyman was buried in the wheat up to his chest in the bin on his farm on Monday.
Honeyman had been unloading wheat from the bin into a semitrailer with the help of an auger when he went into the bin to remove something he thought might plug the auger. The man was sucked into the downward flow of grain.
Rescuers called by his son cut strips of plywood and were able to form a cradle around Honeyman. Wheat was then sifted from inside the wooden barrier so he could be removed. It took about an hour to get Honeyman out. He was checked by medical workers on the scene and determined to be OK.
