The host mother of an exchange student from India who vanished from the Edgeley area over the weekend says she got a cell phone message from him saying he was in Seattle and on his way to Canada.
Collette Mathern says she has no idea why Harman Singh would want to go to Canada, or even if he's telling the truth. She says it's possible he might have met someone in an Internet chat room, and that the state crime bureau is analyzing the family's computer.
The crime bureau wouldn't confirm that.
LaMoure County Sheriff Bob Fernandes says authorities checked with area airports and there is no indication Singh got on a flight.
The 16-year-old went missing from the Edgeley school on Saturday night, after returning from a track meet in Jamestown.
Superintendent Rick Diegel says the boy left goodbye notes in the lockers of four students, and had obviously planned his disappearance.
