Red River drops below major flood stage

FARGO, N.D. (AP) _ The Red River in Fargo has dropped below what the National Weather Service calls major flood stage.


Major flood stage is 30 feet. The river was measured at 29.95 feet at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, or about 12 feet above flood stage. It has dropped more than 7 feet since cresting on March 21.

Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker says the river dropping below 30 feet will allow officials to focus on removing clay levees and sandbags that helped protect property.
