Storm dumps 4-8 inches of snow in first round

The National Weather Service says parts of North Dakota and Minnesota have already gotten eight inches of snow, and some forecasts say the total could end up being more than twice that amount. Fargo-Moorhead is digging out from about four inches.

Meteorologists say Faribault had eight inches as of early Thursday morning. Minnetonka had seven and Chanhassen had a little over six.

The Star Tribune of Minneapolis says Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport remains open, with at least one to two runways operating. But 150 flights have been canceled and 30 more delayed.

As the snowstorm rolled in Wednesday night the road conditions deteriorated rapidly. The weather was blamed for one fatality, when a driver hit an icy patch Wednesday evening and skidded into oncoming traffic. The storm is expected to linger into Saturday.
