The store features more than 30 merchandise departments and a full line of groceries.
It will employ about 300 employees, according to store manager John Pies. He began his Walmart career in 2000 as an assistant manager in Mitchell, SD.
The opening of the 55th Avenue South location is expected to ease traffic at Fargo's 13th Avenue store. "It's a lot different than the store on 13th Avenue," said Arch Allison, Wal-Mart's North Dakota Marketing Manager. "We've put all the consumable items on one side of the store, so that way, it makes the shopping experience quicker and easier, because we all know how time's important to people now."
This particular store will feature energy-efficient technology, according to Pies, including features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste.
Skylights were implemented to harvest daylight, reducing the amount of energy required to light the store by up to 75 percent daily. In addition, many of the materials used to built the facility were recycled.
