The 7-Day Clinic will rotate through the schools in October to ensure as many children and adults can receive the seasonal flu vaccine.
This may very well be the most important school function the community attends this year. Those bold words are from Cheryl Lausch, Fargo City PTA health and welfare co-chair.

The Fargo Public Schools and the Fargo PTA, as well as Oak Grove, West Fargo Schools and Catholic Schools Network have teamed up with the 7-Day Clinic to offer seasonal flu shots right at school locations. "This is a win-win for everyone," says Lowell Wolff, assistant to the superintendent for community relations and planning for Fargo Public Schools. "What better way to get our entire community protected against seasonal flu than by using the schools to accomplish this."

A preregistration phone line at 7-Day Clinic has been set up to schedule appointments for anyone in the community wishing to participate. Phone lines are open from 8am-8pm, Monday-Friday, 701.364.2911.

Walk-ins are welcome, however, to expedite paperwork, preregistration is highly recommended. "It is OK if you don't have a student attending a particular school. Just sign up for the school most convenient for you, whether you have a family, are a couple, or a single person," says William Williams, director of operations for the 7-Day Clinic.

The 7-Day Clinic will rotate through the schools in October to ensure as many children and adults can receive the seasonal flu vaccine. When you call the registration phone line, please have your health insurance card ready. If you do not have insurance, cost of the seasonal vaccine is $33 ($55 for a nasal mist vaccine for those who prefer that method). Children under age 18 without health insurance will be vaccinated at no charge through the VFC (Vaccination For Children, a government program). "Plus, for every flu shot, the 7-Day Clinic will donate $2 back to the PTA to use in our efforts," says Lausch.

Susan McCullough, mother of two and also active in the PTA and this effort, has already preregistered herself, her husband, Greg, and their 14- and 16-year old daughters. "Families can get vaccinated together at one time. It's convenient and fits into our schedule," says McCullough. "We aren't only doing this to protect ourselves, but we are doing this for our community."

The nation's Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone age six months and older get the seasonal flu shot. The CDC reports that 40,000 people die each year from seasonal flu.

"It just takes five minutes on the phone to preregister," says Williams. "We highly recommend you do so, so that the medical team can be in place to accommodate what we anticipate to be a large turnout. We also know there are many people from outlying communities who come to Fargo to work or participate in activities. If you are a resident from a surrounding town (such as Casselton, Mapleton or Horace) you are certainly welcome to participate as individuals or with your families."
